Mock test for GATE aspirants


GATEFORUM IS ready with an All India Free Mock Test for aspirants of GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) to be conducted in 30 cities throughout India, including Bangalore, on August 26. The test will be conducted in the engineering disciplines of CSE, ECE, EE, ME, IT and pharmacy. The test results in terms of all India ranks and percentile scores will be available on the net at ( www.gateforum.com).

GATE is an all-India examination conducted by the seven Indian Institutes of Technology and the Indian Institute of Science. The next test is scheduled for February 10, 2008.

In Bangalore, mock test by Gateforum will be conducted at NSVK School, 7th Block, Jayanagar, at 9.30 a.m. on August 26, and at the MLA Women’s College, 18th Cross, Malleswaram. For information, call 41310203 or 9886600010.

Toyota MoU

Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bangalore University for the development of Japanese language. The MoU will be in force till 2010.

Vice-Chancellor H.A. Ranganath and TKM Director-Corporate Planning Division, Makoto Ono, signed the agreement recently at Central College.

For the current agreement, the TKM will spend Rs. 12.4 lakh.

Open source

To commemorate 60 years of Independence, Sun Microsystems has announced a contest called “Code for freedom” open to undergraduate and graduate students in any college or university in India.

The contest invites contributions to five Open Source projects — OpenSolaris, Netbeans, Project Glassfish, Apache Derby and OpenPortal — and will run until January 2008. To participate, students should go to ( http://in.sun.com/codeforfreedom ) to get the contest details and more information.

Here’s what Anil Gupta, VP, Sun India Engineering Centre, had to say about the contest: “Sun is adding another dimension to the word freedom.”

IIMB clubs

At the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB), students often look out for what their multiple in-house clubs have to offer. These clubs are student-run initiatives, which bring together people of similar interests to pursue non-academic activities. All club activities are coordinated by the president of the Students Affairs Council (SAC), an elected representative of the student body at large.

One such club, the “Forum for Industrial Interaction” works directly with the industry to allow students to interact with and learn from “the real corporate world,” the culmination of their efforts being the annual fest Vista. “The Cultural Committee” sees to all student needs cultural in nature, be it birthday and festival celebrations, intra IIMB events or the annual cultural festival Unmaad.

University celebrations

Bangalore University celebrated the Independence Day with deans of various faculties, chairpersons of PD departments, officers, administrative staff and students coming together for the programme.

Vice-Chancellor H.A. Ranganath stressed on the need for accountability on the part of teaching and administrative staff in building prospects for students’ future.

He said the university has chalked out programmes to commemorate 60 years of Independence and one would be awarding a fellowship each to the first-rank in the Ph.D. entrance test to encourage doctoral research.
