Parties stress on development

Independence Day celebrated at party offices

BANGALORE: Independence Day celebrations were held at the offices of all the three major political parties — the Janata Dal (S), Bharatiya Janata Party and Congress in Bangalore on Wednesday.

At the Bharatiya Janata Party’s office, party leaders expressed concern over the increasing activity of terrorists and took a pledge to fight the menace and divisive forces.

Terrorism

Bharatiya Janata Party’s State unit president D.V. Sadananda Gowda, who unfurled the national tricolour at the party office, observed that terrorism, naxalism and other divisive forces were hindering the country’s development.

‘Remove inequalities’

Party national general secretary H. N. Ananth Kumar stressed the need for removing inequalities in society by fighting against caste feelings.

Janata Dal (Secular) vice-president Thippeswamy hoisted the national flag at the party office in the presence of Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy.

The Chief Minister greeted the people of the State on the occasion of the Independence Day and said that he would continue to strive for the development of the State.

Bhajans were sung on the occasion.

Unfurling the national flag at the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee office, KPCC president M. Mallikarjun Kharge called upon party workers to strive unitedly for the development of the State as well as the country.

Awareness

He exhorted them to work for bringing the party to back to power in the State by creating awareness among the people about the achievements of the UPA Government at the Centre.

Counter attack

He listed various development programmes formulated by the UPA Government and launched a counter attack on those questioning the contribution of the Congress to the development of the country.
