BJP meet to discuss strategy for civic polls

Special Correspondent

BANGALORE: The BJP has convened separate meeting of its office-bearers, Ministers and chiefs of boards and corporations on Thursday.

BJP State unit president D.V. Sadananda Gowda told The Hindu that the meetings had been convened to discuss the party’s strategy to be adopted in the ensuing elections to the urban local bodies.

The meetings would also take stock of the party’s progress with respect to the formation of the booth-level committees, he said. It had been decided by the party to depute its Ministers and leaders to different districts to monitor the progress of formation of such panels.

While the process of formation of such committees was already on, the party Ministers and leaders would review the progress regarding the formation of such committees in their designated districts on August 19 and ensure that such panels were formed in all the areas, he said.

While Deputy Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa would visit Bijapur and Bagalkot on August 19 to monitor the formation of booth-level committees, Mr. Gowda himself would visit Gulbarga.

Meanwhile, though the official agenda of the proposed meetings was regarding the urban local bodies polls, the transfer of power to the BJP and the recent visit of Mr. Yediyurappa to New Delhi might also come up for discussion.

However, Mr. Gowda maintained that transfer of power would definitely take place and hence there was no need to discuss such issues.
