Deputy Chief Minister blames Opposition for creating confusion on power transfer

B.S. Yediyurappa

SHIMOGA: “This is my last Independence Day speech as Deputy Chief Minister. I am getting ready to write a new foreword to the development of the State with the support of the people.”

Deputy Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa made this remark during his speech at the Independence Day function at the Nehru Stadium here on Wednesday.

Agreement

The Deputy Chief Minister said, “it is natural for media persons to keep harping on this issue because of the confusion being created by the Opposition. There is an agreement between me and Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy and there is nothing to suggest that it will not be honoured.”

Mr. Yediyurappa, who holds the portfolio of Minor Irrigation, said that he would allocate Rs.1 crore to each Assembly constituency to take up minor irrigation works.

Stating that benefits of many welfare schemes were yet to reach the people, Mr. Yediyurappa said the Sandhya Suraksha scheme designed for the welfare of nearly seven lakh poor senior citizens was not being implemented properly.

He said the village stays of the Chief Minister had come in for praise and the exercise had helped in understanding the problems of the rural people better.

Complaint

Responding to a complaint by the daily wage employees in the Forest Department that they had not been paid for the last six months, Mr. Yediyurappa said he would sort out the problem immediately.

Minister for Water Resources K.S. Eshwarappa said the Government had taken up rejuvenation of tanks in a big way and the work would begin in September.

Tanks

He said that 188 tanks had been identified in Bagalkot and Bijapur districts — forming part of the Krishna basin —for which Rs. 386 crore had been earmarked.

The Deputy Chief Minister said Rs. 300 crore had been sanctioned for the rejuvenation of 700 tanks in the seven districts under the Cauvery basin.

He said that the agency for implementation of the Tunga Lift Irrigation scheme to be taken up at a cost of Rs. 21 crore had been finalised.

Visit

Mr. Eshwarappa said that accompanied by the Minister in charge of Davangere district S.A. Ravindranath, MLAs of the region and MPs he would visit the areas to oversee the implementation of the Bhadra modernisation work being implemented at a cost of Rs. 918 crore.

He said that tenders had been finalised for the implementation of the Upper Bhadra Project at an estimated cost of Rs. 825 crore.
