A whiff of freedom

Joyful: Street children performing at the function.

BANGALORE: Asking whether Independence Day holds any meaning for the jaded urbanite is a hackneyed question. But for street children who struggle with the burden of every day living in terms of food and shelter, it was time to let go, for those few hours and indulge in some entertainment. At a function organised by Bangalore Oniyavara Seva Coota (BOSCO), children donned the role of famous freedom fighters and enacted plays, danced to the tunes of several hit numbers dressed in traditional attire and ate to their heart’s content.
