Focus on national development: Minister

Belur: Minister for Women and Child Development H. K. Kumaraswamy has stressed the importance of education in all-round national development.

Addressing a gathering at the Independence Day celebrations in Belur on Wednesday, he said the State had achieved progress in all fields, including education, agriculture, engineering, medicine and irrigation.

In Sakleshpur, Assistant Commissioner Meena Nagaraj unfurled the National Flag on Wednesday. H.M. Viswanath, MLA, exhorted women to become an active part of the mainstream.

In Holenarsipur, tahsildar Kadaiah, who unfurled the National Flag, paid tributes to the freedom fighters who had sacrificed their lives to enable India to achieve freedom. Taluk Panchayat president A. D. Chandrasekhar presided over the function.

In Arkalagud, Tahsildar Madhukeswar, after hoisting the National Flag, asked the youth to fight against destructive forces that were bent on destabilising the country.
