ERODE: There is some good news from Gandhi Ashram, Tiruchengodu. A release from the ashram says the production of khadi and village industries products in June has increased by 65 per cent. “The new experiment of khadi yarn handsizing, warping and supplying readymade beams to weavers helped them substantially to weave additionally 75 per cent, from 40 metres to 70 metres a week and thereby earn an additional wage of Rs. 300 a week for workers,” the release said. It noted that the production of incense sticks increased, from Rs. 4.32 lakh to Rs. 8.32 lakh for the corresponding period last year. Likewise, laundry soap production increased to Rs. 4.23 lakh from Rs. 2.23 lakh. There is more good news from the ashram. The sale of silk cotton stuffed khadi tour beds to residential school students in June this year went up to Rs. 6.5 lakh from Rs. 3.5 lakh. Increased production had been possible because of the guidance of K. Lakshmi Kanthan Bharathi, president, S. Aravamudhan, vice president, G. Santhamoorthy, secretary and P. Dinakaran, joint secretary, the release further said. — Staff Reporter
