Uttarakhand Congress chief stages dharna

DEHRA DUN: Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee president Harish Rawat sat on a day-long dharna on Thursday protesting against alleged misuse of official machinery at Dhumakot from where Chief Minister B.C. Khanduri is seeking election to the State Assembly.

Mr. Rawat also submitted a memorandum to the Election Commission demanding action against alleged violation of the model code of conduct.

He charged that the Government had filed false cases against Congress leaders to stop them from campaigning in Dhumakot where the Congress candidate Surendra Negi is pitted against Mr. Khanduri in a straight contest.
