Policemen held in connection with robberies

TIRUNELVELI: The Tirunelveli city police have arrested four persons, including three policemen, in connection with several robberies.

Speaking to reporters here on Thursday, the Deputy Commissioner (Law and Order), R. Dhinakaran, said that one of the special teams formed recently found Amarnath (29) and Balamurugan (28), both policemen in Armed Reserve Police, Madurai, Perumal (36), a cook in Armed Reserve Police Force, Madurai, and Akbar Ali (48), who was selling tender coconut near the AR camp, moving in a suspicious manner at Melapalayam on Thursday.

During interrogation, they reportedly confessed that they were involved in robberies at Madurai Railway Colony in December last, Meenakshipuram near Tirunelveli Junction on July 12, Suduthanneer Channel Road, Madurai, on July 30, Abhishekapatti near Tirunelveli on August 6 and Sindhupoondurai near Tirunelveli Junction on August 9.

The police also recovered ornaments worth Rs. 2 lakh, two knives and a two-wheeler from them.
