Family waits for kin’s coffin from Dubai

S.Ramu

Uncertainty looms large about arrival

AREGUDEM (NALGONDA DT.): Dubbala Hemalatha’s desperate wait for the body of her husband, Lakshmaiah, who died in Dubai on July 29, is still continuing as there are no takers of her pitiable condition.

The family, which is already in the debt trap, had to borrow over Rs.50,000 to make arrangements to bring the body as well as to make phone calls to Sharjah to know the “condition” of the corpse.

“We are not sure when the body would arrive here,” Lakshmaiah’s elder daughter Rajitha told The Hindu on Thursday. “We sent Rs.30, 000 to Sharjah to buy a coffin and an air ticket for my father’s frien d but he informed us yesterday that he couldn’t accompany the body due to some visa problems,” she revealed.

While Hemalatha and Rajitha’s husband Narasimha camped in Hyderabad to complete the legal formalities as required by the immigration authorities, Rajitha is taking care of her sister Pujitha (15) and brother Harish (3) here.

A pall of gloom descended on this village in Chityal mandal as the family is unsure about the arrival of the body. Moved by the plight of the family, some elderly persons in the village are gathering in front of Lakshmaiah’s one-room house everyday to console.

Lakshmaiah had, in fact, wished to come back to India long ago owing to ill-health but he stayed back. “He was all set to come back but he told us on July 4 that he would be back after collecting Rs.50, 000 from his old employer,” Rajitha maintained.
