CPI stages protest at Guntakal

Staff Reporter

ANANTAPUR: The Communist Party of India (CPI) staged a massive dharna in front of the Tahsildar’s office at Guntakal in the district on Thursday demanding issuance of house site pattas to the shelter-less poor who had occupied about 50 acres land in four places around the town.

Party activists and the poor took out a huge procession from Old Guntakal to the Tahsildar’s office before staging the protest.

Speaking at the dharna, district secretary of CPI M.V. Ramana and party leaders D. Jagadish, D. Shankuntala and Ameenamma alleged that the State Government was deceiving the poor by making false promises.

The Government had promised houses to all shelter-less poor, but not a single house was constructed in the railway divisional headquarters town during the last three years.

The party would stage dharna in front of Tahsildar’s offices on August 22. In Kadiri, CPI and CPI (M) activists led by district secretary of CPI (M) G. Obulakonda Reddy, took out huge processions in support of occupation of lands .
