Teams formed to check private colleges

SALEM: The Directorate of Technical Education has set up teams to conduct inspections in the self-financing engineering colleges in order to prevent them from collecting excess tuition fees.
In a press release, Government College of Engineering (GCE) Principal in-charge P.M. Kavimani said that senior faculty members of the college were also included in the teams. They would conduct frequent checks in the colleges in Salem and Namakkal districts and a part of Karur. The teams were formed following widespread complaints that some of the self-financial college managements were collecting capitation fee and excess tuition fees.
The Government has prescribed a tuition fee of Rs. 32,500 for non-accredited courses and Rs. 40,000 for the accredited courses. If colleges are found collecting excess fees, people, parents and students can inform the GCE principal.
