RTC’s decision to hire buses draws flak
Special Correspondent
Decision will allegedly affect 5000 unemployed Contract workers were languishing in same cadre
TIRUPATI: The reported decision of the APSRTC to hire 1200 buses has come under flak from its Staff and Workers Federation which termed it as a gross violation of the agreement reached between the management and the JAC in 2005 during the statewide agitation.
The State general secretary of the SWF has recalled in this context the specific promise made out to the JAC by the management to the effect that it would terminate the contract with the hired bus operators once the contract period lapsed.
Criticism
It criticised that as such the tenders called now for the procurement of 1200 buses for operation on ‘hire basis’ amounted to the dumping of the agreement.
He said the management’s decision would affect the job opportunities of as many as 5000 unemployed persons and pointed out as how RTC was already dabbling with the job opportunities in the name of ‘teams’, ‘single crew duty’ and so on. Contract workers, he lamented were languishing in the same cadre even after putting in 9 to 10 years of service without any benefits. Subramanyam said that it was to protest against all these problems that the SWF had given call for a statewide dharnas at the regional offices on August, 21.
