Staff Correspondent

769 high schools register 100 per cent result this year

Rs. 25 crore being spent on repairs to school buildings

DHARWAD: Primary and Secondary Education Minister Basavaraj Horatti has said stringent measures will be taken against high schools which fail to register 40 per cent result in the SSLC examination in the coming years.

He was speaking here on Thursday after distributing certificates to headmasters and headmistresses of 81 high schools of Dharwad, Uttara Kannada, Gadag and Haveri districts, which had achieved 100 per cent results in the SSLC examination this year. The programme was organised by Department of Public Instruction, Karnataka State Teachers Welfare Fund, State Students Welfare Fund and National Teachers Welfare Fund.

Mr. Horatti said that last year 593 high schools registered cent per cent results and this year the number had increased to 769. Of them, 149 were government high schools, 96 aided and 516 unaided private schools.

The Government had taken steps to improve the basic amenities in the government schools, he said.

Elaborating on the various measures taken for the benefit of teachers and improvement of amenities, Mr. Horatti said Rs. 275 crores had been released for infrastructure development in the Education Department, of which Rs. 25 crore was being spent on repairs to school buildings.

The Minister said the State Government had sanctioned Rs. 178 crore for giving grant-in aid to 1,309 primary schools, 667 high schools and 103 Pre-University colleges and nearly 18,000 teaching and non-teaching staff of these institutions would get government salary from the current academic year.

G. Kumar Nayak, Commissioner, Department of Public Instruction; A.K. Monnappa, Additional Commissioner of the department, spoke on the occasion.

Presiding over the function MLC A.M. Hindasageri opined that such recognition of service would encourage other schools to strive hard for getting good results.
