Art teachers stage dharna, submit memorandum to Horatti

DHARWAD: Members of All Karnataka Art Teachers’ Association staged a dharna in front of the Dr. Mallikarjun Mansur Kalabhavan here on Thursday to press for their various demands.
The protestors urged the State Government to appoint art teachers to every school in the State and consider only those candidates who had undergone art teachers’ training as specified by the State Government in the year 1981.
They urged the State Government to extend the age limit for the recruitment of the art teachers as many candidates would lose the opportunity since no appointments had been conducted since a long time.
Even the recruitment process, which was started during 2004-05 had been kept pending, they said.
They said the Government should take steps to rectify the lacunae in the recruitment rules for the art teachers and consider the candidates who had applied for the post during 2004-05.
Appeal to Horatti
They then submitted a memorandum to Primary and Secondary Education Minister Basavaraj Horatti, who had come to Vidyavardhaka Sangha to participate in a programme.
They urged him to take requisite measures in the interest of the art teachers, most of whom, they said, had already crossed the age limit prescribed for the appointment.
