‘Janapada Jatre’ to be resumed

BANGALORE: The much popular “Janapada Jatre”, a fortnightly programme based on folk art forms that has been suspended since March because of public complaints and administrative problems, will be resumed shortly, Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy has said.

The Chief Minister was inaugurating the programmes that marked 150th year of the launch of freedom movement and the traditional cultural programmes that marked the Independence Day here on Wednesday.

Programmes pertaining to the 150th year of the freedom movement were inaugurated at seven places in Bangalore simultaneously.

A success

Emphasising that the Government had given due importance to the cultural activities on the occasion of Suvarna Karnataka celebrations, Mr. Kumaraswamy said “Janapada Jatre” was a success in urban and rural areas.

The Government was committed to encourage and protect all traditional and modern art forms of the State, he said. Secretary to the Department of Kannada and Culture I. M. Vittal Murthy welcomed the gathering.

Freedom fighter and Chairman of the Gandhi Bhavan, Bangalore, Ho. Srinivasaiah was the chief guest.

Minister for Kannada and Culture H.S. Mahadeva Prasad presided over the function.

Governor T.N. Chaturvedi could not make it to the programme.
