Karunada Rakshana Vedike formed

MANGALORE: Davangere-based Karunada Rakshana Vedike has officially joined the bandwagon of language organisations that have vowed to preserve, protect and uphold the cause of Kannada language, its culture and its people.

The former president of Kannada Sahitya Parishat, Harikrishna Punaroor, has been elected State president of the vedike and has G.M. Prasanna Kumar, an industrialist, as its honorary president. Releasing the list of office-bearers and its charter here on Thursday, Mr. Punaroor said the vedike would take up issues pertaining to the development of Kannada.

It would work to uphold the honour and dignity of Kannada flag and take a pro-active stand on various issues pertaining to the interests of Karnataka.

The vedike would strive to organise people and take up democratically and legally acceptable means of protest in case the interest of the State was compromised, Mr. Punaroor said.N. Rajendra Bangera is its general secretary and K.T. Gopal Gowda treasurer. The vedike has five vice-presidents, one convener and eight directors.
