Train services disrupted as track sinks

PATNA: Heavy rains led to the collapse of a number of houses, schools and government offices in Bihar resulting in the death of at least two children. It also crippled train services on the vital Mokama-Patna section on Thursday.

The track near Mokama sunk affecting the Delhi-Howrah link via Patna. Many trains have been cancelled, several others diverted and still others running late. Repair works are under way to restore services on this crucial route.

In view of inundation of colonies and submergence of roads the district administrations of Patna, Muzaffarpur and Samastipur have ordered closure of schools till Sunday.

One student died when the roof of a school collapsed in Motipur in Muzaffarpur district. Another child was killed and five others were injured when a house caved in at Danwan village under Jagdishpur police station in Bhojpur district.

The roof of Baruraj police station in Muzaffarpur fell down, but no one was injured. Three children drowned in two incidents in Harnaut in Nalanda district, while a child died in a boat capsize in the Bagmati river in Sitamarhi district.

Five more deaths were reported from Bhojpur, East Champaran and Begusarai taking the death toll past the 300 mark in the State.
