PANAJI: Rebel Congress legislator in Goa Victoria Fernandes on Thursday moved an application before Speaker Pratap Singh Rane seeking withdrawal of her resignation. She submitted her resignation to the Speaker on July 25, alleging that she was ill-treated by the party. Denial of a ministerial berth was said to her main grouse. The resignation is yet to be accepted by the Speaker. Ms. Fernandes had sided with the Opposition during the recent fortnight-long political crisis that gripped the Congress-led Government. The crisis was resolved on Tuesday when the Congress Government got the support of three MLAs from two regional parties to take its strength back to 22 in the 40-member house. The resignation of Ms. Fernandes and simultaneous withdrawal of support to the Government by the two-member Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) put the Digambar Kamat Government in minority and led to the formation of the BJP-led Goa Democratic Alliance (GDA) and the grouping staking a claim to form a government. At the hearing of the disqualification petitions against them on Thursday, the two MGP MLAs urged Mr. Rane to allow video-recording of the proceedings. The Supreme Court will hear the petitions of the MLAs on Friday. The petitioners have sought to challenge the authority of the Speaker to restrain them from taking part in the voting during a floor test in the House through an ex parte ad interim order on July 30.
