Budhia’s coach gets bail

BHUBANESWAR: A local court on Thursday granted bail to Biranchi Das, child marathon runner Budhia Singh’s coach. He was arrested on charges of torturing the boy.
The bail plea came up for hearing in the court of Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate Khurda Arun Kumar Sahu. The bail was granted on Mr. Das furnishing a personal bond of Rs. 5000 and a surety for the same amount, said his counsel Sitanshu Mohan Dwibedi. The coach, however, was not released because another case against him is to be heard on Friday.
The Bhubaneswar police arrested Mr. Das on Monday after Budhia’s mother Sukanti Singh complained that her son was hung upside down and hot water poured on him.
The coach was charged with offences under Sections 341 (wrongful restraint), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 294 (obscene acts), and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 23 of the Juvenile Justice Care and Protection Act. His bail plea was rejected and he was sent to the Jharpada Special Jail, Bhubaneswar.
