BANGALORE: An inspired spell by off-spinner Hardik Munoth, who grabbed seven wickets for 48 runs, set Bangalore Zone well on course for a lead over President’s XI in the semifinals of the S.A. Srinivasan (under-22) cricket championship at the RSI grounds here on Thursday . On the opening day, President’s XI mustered 156 in its first innings with N. Manish top scoring with 40. Bangalore Zone at close, had made 117 for three wickets in 29 overs with Vijay Karthik staying unbeaten on 35 while Stalin Hoover cracked a breezy 48. In the other semifinal at NRA grounds, Bangalore City XI made 107 for two wickets at close, in reply Combined City XI’s 221. Keshav Chitta (40) and Kunal Kappoor (31) were going strong for Bangalore City XI at close. The scores: President’s XI 156 in 48.1 overs (N. Manish 40, Hardik Munoth seven for 48) vs Bangalore Zone 117 for three in 29 overs (Vijay Karthik 35 n.o., Stalin Hoover 48). Combined City XI 221 in 63.4 overs (S.P. Army School (MEG) beat Sports School (Kudige) 4-1 to lift the Dr. Randhawa Memorial Trophy in the inter-school hockey tournament, conducted by the Rotary Club of Indiranagar. Nagalinga (8th & 49th), Vijay (14th) and Madan (16th) scored for the winner and Karan (56th) scored Sports School’s only goal. Local lad Mahesh A. Bathija, aN 8th standard student of Acharya Vidya Kula, Mysore, and a product of the R. Nagaraj’s Tennis Centre, entered the finals in both the boys’ under-14 and under-16 singles in the Karnataka State junior tennis tournament at Mysore on Thursday. In the under-14 semifinals, sixth-seeded Mahesh registered an upset win over third-seeded M.S. Rakshith 6-3, 6-3. He set up a title clash with second-seeded Rohit R Gowda who got the better of Drithwin 6-2, 7-5 in the other semifinal. In the under-16 semifinals, he overcame S.D. Supreeth Dev 4-6, 7-5, 7-6(3) and will now meet unseeded Vikas Hansoge, who got the better of third seeded Rohit R Gowda 6-3, 6-2. Other results: Girls’ under-16: Rachana R Gowda bt Dhruthi T.
