For a ‘haunted’ eatery

Antara Das

Kolkata: A macabre ambience as you have a hearty meal. This is what awaits potential visitors to a ‘haunted’ restaurant that Kolkata-based magician P.C. Sorcar (Junior) plans to set up.

“The restaurant will create an apparent spooky sensation of ghosts, from the time the guests are ushered in. The way the food is served and the entire ambience [will add to the effect],” Mr. Sorcar said. “The idea is to provide a unique, out-of-the-world experience.”

Mr. Sorcar, however, added a word of caution for the devotees of the bizarre. “The entire concept is based on science, relying on optical illusions to achieve the desired effect,” he said.

“It will be more like a show lasting about 40 minutes, at the end of which the ghosts disappear, the guests are asked to leave and the restaurant is closed till the next show.” The tricks behind the make-believe world will not be explained, but Mr. Sorcar promised that the visitors would be informed that there was nothing real, religious or supernatural about it.

Mr. Sorcar had been toying with the idea for quite some time. While the location was yet to be decided, it would be somewhere in the vicinity of Kolkata, close to where Mr. Sorcar lives.
