BERHAMPUR: Inhabitants of 12 villages under Sasanpadar and Indrakshi panchayats of Ganjam district have threatened to hold agitation on the NH 5 if the Pradhan Mantri Gramya Sadak Yojna road between Indrakshi and Nakaram is not repaired by end of this month. The villagers have already sent a memorandum to the district administration about their demand. The road connecting these two villages was constructed in 2005-06 under the PMGSY. Central government had spent Rs. 65 lakhs for construction of the four-km road. Villagers allege although the road is said to have a minimum life span of five years, portions of it have got deteriorated within two years of construction. A busy portion of the road near Indrakshi village becomes a long ditch during rain. Faulty planning by engineers has led to accumulation of rain water from the village at this portion of the road. The accumulation of rainwater has almost destroyed the road although it was made of concrete. Some other portions of the road have also got washed away.
