Police making efforts to trace

the bodies

MYSORE: Two students of JSS Medical College, Mysore, were feared drowned at the Gaganachukki Falls in Shivanasamudra of Malavalli taluk on Wednesday.

The victims have been identified as Gaurav Kukrija (22) from New Delhi and Abhishek Kumar Jha (22) of Chattisgarh.

They went to Shivanasamudra with four others for a picnic. It is yet to be ascertained how the two students drowned. According to reports received here, the police were making efforts to trace the bodies. The waterfalls are in full splendour, thanks to release of water from the Krishna Raja Sagar and Kabini dams. The place has been drawing a large number of tourists since third week of July.

Though the authorities have put up boards cautioning the tourists from taking any risky step, lack of proper maintenance of iron railings at the spot becomes apparent. A stretch of the iron railing at the falls is missing, while the fence around a viewing spot near the Dargah is shaky and precariously positioned.

The police said software professionals from Bangalore comprised a major chunk of visitors to Shivanasamudra.

An assistant sub-inspector of police and six constables have been deployed at the falls.
