PUDUKOTTAI: Increase in the local bodies’ share in government revenue will ensure better fund flow to village panchayats, Collector S.J. Chiru has said.
Participating in a Gram Sabha meeting at Pinnankudipatti in Virallimalai union here, Mr. Chiru said the Government allotted nine per cent of its revenue to local bodies. The State Finance Commission grants to local bodies had gone up from 45 per cent to 60 per cent. Village panchayats were being given a minimum of Rs.3 lakh each.
The Government had directed that the expenditure incurred by the panchayats for street lights and water supply be met from the 12th Finance Commission grants. Power tariff had been reduced and the penal interest on tariff arrears waived.
Mr. Chiru said the Maruthampatti village panchayat had been selected for the implementation of the ‘Anaithu Grama Anna Marumalarchi Thittam’ this year. The Mettupattinayakan tank in the village would be desilted at a cost of Rs.4.50 lakh. A new library building would be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs.2.20 lakh.
The Gram Sabha meetings in the district discussed the implementation of government schemes.
