VIJAYAWADA: Putting his nimble fingers to best use, veteran puppeteer and folk artiste from Rajasthan Jagdish Bhatt was the cynosure of all at the Rajasthani food festival that began at Hotel Fortune Murali Park on Thursday. Mr. Bhatt and his two-member troupe from Jaipur will narrate several stories through puppet show to entertain lovers of the desert food at the 17-day festival. One can also enjoy a good deal of popular Rajasthani ‘Lok Sangeeth’. “No Rajasthani food festival is complete without a puppet show”, said hotel general manager Mohammad Shoeb. The 24-hour Astral Coffee shop, the venue food fest was decked up to suit the theme of the food festival – ‘Padharo Sa…,’ . In tune with the rhythmic beats emanating from dholak and kanchera, Rajasthani percussion instruments, Mr. Bhatt made the puppets dance to the tunes of dholak and kanchera, played by young Vijay and Vinay.“This art is in vogue from the days of the Maharajas,” This is a traditional art that has been passed on to successive generations. Thanks, to the boom in tourism in Rajasthan, folk artistes are getting good recognition,” said Mr. Bhatt. Chef Kailash Maharaj was especially roped in to prepare lip-smacking Marwari delicacies, such as Dal-Bati, Aloo Mungodi, Govind Gatta, Sev Tamatar Ki Tari, Kachauri and Ker Sangri. The food at the festival for the normal price of Rs. 250 a plate.
