Vaccination for foot-and-mouth disease

UDUMALPET: Following the outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease that took a toll of 12 cows and several goats in Ramachandrapuram and Anikkadavu, near here, the Coimbatore district administration swung into action and vaccinated 2,720 cattle on Thursday through a special drive.
Situation under control
District Collector Neeraj Mittal said that the outbreak was contained and the situation was under control.
The Collector said that 20 teams of veterinarians from across the district vaccinated all the cattle in 16 hamlets around Ramachandrapuram and Anikkadavu in Gudimangalam panchayat union.
A total of 109 cows and 55 goats have been given treatment.
Mr. Mittal said situation was being monitored closely.
