NEW DELHI: A 16-year-old girl who was set afire allegedly by two young men in her house at Okhla Phase-II here on Monday succumbed to her injuries in Safdarjung Hospital on Wednesday. While one of the accused has been arrested, a hunt is on for the other. The victim was a resident of Sanjay Colony in Okhla Phase-II. According to a complaint lodged by her mother, she was alone in the house when two young men, Momin and Naushad, forced their way in, poured some inflammable liquor on her and set her ablaze on Monday evening. While the suspects fled, the girl was rushed to Safdarjung Hospital with severe burns. Her condition deteriorated and she succumbed to the injuries on Wednesday. It is alleged that Naushad -- who lived in the neighbourhood – developed a liking for the girl, a Class VIII student, and proposed to her on Monday. But she turned down the proposal and this peeved Naushad. He along with Momin then allegedly planned to teach her a lesson and torched her. The incident comes days after a fashion designer was torched allegedly by two young men outside her upmarket Greater Kailash-II residence this past weekend. None of the assailants has been arrested so far.
