Panic call: Nokia mobile users throng a showroom on Thursday for battery replacement.
HYDERABAD: Nokia mobile users flocked the mobile phone show rooms for the second consecutive day on Thursday in the twin cities, after the mobile phone company issued an advisory about faulty BL-5C batteries. Anxious phone users lined up in front of the shops trying to find out how they could get the batteries replaced. However, many of them were assured by the show room staff that their batteries need not be replaced, as they were not part of those manufactured by the Matsushita Company between December 2005 and November 2006. Most of the show rooms had the staff exclusively to check out on the Internet whether a particular battery needed to be replaced. At many of the places where Nokia mobiles were sold, users were seen filling up forms to provide the 26 digit battery code, which the staff was verifying. For those batteries which are certified by the Nokia website for replacement, the staff were noting down the addresses. According to YVNA Bhukta Sharma, Manager of Nokia Care Centre at Panjagutta staff at the centre checked as many as 700 batteries and found that only 13 needed replacements. “New batteries will be provided within 24 hours of the complaint being registered,” Mr. Sharma said. The new batteries are to be sent by courier by Nokia.
