NEW DELHI: Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy on Thursday said the Government will examine the Left parties’ demand for the establishment of land commissions. Though it is not a feasible suggestion, he said the State Government will ‘legally’ examine the possibility of setting up such commissions. The Chief Minister was briefing mediapersons here after meeting Congress president Sonia Gandhi. As is wont with all such meetings between Congress Chief Ministers and Ms. Gandhi, Dr. Reddy refused to divulge details about the meeting except that State-related matters were discussed. He, however, did share with mediapersons his decision to approach Union Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss on Friday with a demand for more Central assistance for implementation of the Health Insurance Scheme. Already implemented in three districts of the State with plans to extend it to five others during this fiscal, the State Government is keen to bring all of Andhra Pradesh under its coverage from the next financial year. Lamenting the low level of assistance from the Centre, Dr. Reddy said he would ask the Health Minister for more funds. Further, Dr. Reddy said that the State Government would soon begin work on the second phase of the Indiramma.
