Karunanidhi clarifies on cable TV operations

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi clarified on Thursday that the Government was not planning to take over TV cable operations and was merely setting up a corporation to run an MSO.

This MSO would compete with others in the field and cable operators were free to take the feed from the corporation.

Some vested interests were spreading canards against the Government move and this had led to fear among the cable operators, he said and added that there was no need for any fear among the operators.

The Government was not planning to give direct connections to any institution or residence. It was up to the cable operator of that area to uplink and provide connectivity. Cable operator association representatives could meet him and clarify their doubts, he said.
