He was arrested on charge of creating public nuisance
BIJAPUR: The Maharashtra police arrested Indi MLA, Ravikant Patil, an associate member of the Janata Dal (S), and two of his associates after they allegedly created public nuisance during his birthday celebration at his residence in Solapur in Maharashtra early on Thursday. Besides Mr. Patil, his nephew Udaykumar Patil and 12 others have been made accused in the criminal case booked by the police of Sadar Bazaar station, Solapur. Charges
The charges include unlawful assembly, creating public nuisance, criminal intimidation and preventing public servants from discharging their duty. Soon after the arrest around 2 a.m., the MLA complained of uneasiness and was admitted to the civil hospital there. Bail
Mr. Patil and two others, Ganesh Appasaheb Kandaree and Ram Vitthal Khander, were produced before the Judicial Magistrate of Sholapur in the afternoon and were released on bail. At midnight, Mr. Patil’s followers started celebrating his 50th birthday at his Saath Road residence in the heart of Solapur. They burst crackers. There was also a music band. Police Commissioner Ashok Kamte told The Hindu over phone from Solapur that initially some police constables were sent there after residents complained of nuisance. However, the accused sent the policemen back after threatening them of dire consequences. Abused
Later, an inspector was sent with a police party, who were abused by the accused. At last, he himself went there to restore order. However, force had to be used to take the accused into custody as they resisted the arrest, Mr. Kamte added. Meanwhile in Indi and elsewhere, his followers cancelled the programmes planned to celebrate his birthday in the wake of the MLA’s arrest.
