Janata Party demands Government’s dismissal

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: Demanding that the State Government be dismissed, a delegation of the State unit of the Janata Party met Governor T.N. Chaturvedi on Thursday and submitted a memorandum.

Earlier, the delegation led by the party’s working president Ashok Navalgund shouted slogans against the Janata Dal (Secular)-Bharatiya Janata Party coalition Government and staged a protest in front of the Raj Bhavan.

Mr. Ashok told presspersons later that the party had urged the Governor to recommend to the Centre the dismissal of the State Government for its “anti-people policies.”

Listing the Government’s failures, Mr. Navalgund said the process of distributing ration cards and houses under the Ashraya scheme for those below poverty line was a flop show.

“Genuine beneficiaries have been ignored and the whole process is full of discrepancies,” he said. Terming the Government as “anti-democratic” for not holding elections to the urban local bodies, Mr. Navalgund held the Government responsible for the increasing number of farmers’ suicides in rural areas and crime rate in urban areas.

The Government should immediately disburse the compensation promised to farmers, whose crop failed, he said. “The Governor has assured us that he will study our demands,” he added.
