Court partly allows appeals against life imprisonment
Staff Reporter
BANGALORE: The Karnataka High Court on Thursday partly allowed appeals by Hucheerappa and four others, all residents of Kalkere village in Koppal taluk who were sentenced to life imprisonment for rioting and attempt to murder.
Hucheerappa, Bharmapa, Kandkorappa, Benalappa and Yankappa along with several others had assaulted Hanumanthappa and two others on June 7, 2006 following a dispute over elections to taluk and zilla panchayat.
The Koppal Sessions Judge had on August 2, 2004 sentenced the accused to life imprisonment. The accused had appealed against this verdict before the High Court.
A Division Bench comprising Justice V. G. Sabhahit and Justice Ravi B. Naik partly allowed their appeals.
It said since the accused had already served their term in jail, they could be let off if they are not wanted in any other case.
Upheld
A Division Bench comprising Justice V.G. Sabhahit and Justice Ravi B. Naik upheld an order of the Fast Track Court, Mysore, in 2003 sentencing Satyanarayana, a resident of Metagalli in Mysore to life imprisonment for murdering his friend.
