VILLUPURAM: Pattali Makkal Katchi founder S. Ramadoss has voiced anguish over the recent statement made by Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi, which, he said, cast aspersions on the PMK and its intentions.
“The Chief Minister’s attempt to brand the PMK as a party prone to instigating violence and fanning uncivilised acts to turn the State into a jungle has hurt me deeply.
In the past two days I have been repeatedly reading the statement with an agitated mind to fathom its real meaning,” Dr. Ramadoss told a press conference at Thailapuram on Thursday.
He said for fostering social and communal harmony, peace and unity, he had organised 14 district-level conferences in 1998.
In the last conference Mr. Karunanidhi too participated. Dr. Ramadoss said the allegation disturbed him a great deal.
He would not hazard a guess on the implication of the Chief Minister’s observation that “the time is nearing to take a decision (on alliance),” and would like to leave it to the conjecture of reporters.
Adverse impact
Asked whether such postures would have adverse impact on the Democratic Progressive Alliance, Dr. Ramadoss said, “The DMK regime will not face any problem because of me.” He had expressed the same view on many an occasion.
In reply to a question as to whether any perceptible change was noticed in the treatment meted out to the alliance partners, Dr. Ramadoss said at the top level it was not visible.
Lower rungs
However, frictions in the lower rungs were obvious during the local body and cooperative elections.
