Plan to save ‘Ramasetu’

Lakhs to converge at Rameswaram on August 26

TIRUPATI: The Rameswaram Ramasetu Protection Movement has announced an action plan to save the holy bridge -- Ramasetu not only in view of its importance as a underwater heritage structure purported to have been built by the legendary hero of Ramayana but also for of its importance from marine archaeology point of view.

Next phase

Quoting the views of several experts and protagonists of the ‘Save Setu Movement’, Y. Raghavulu, All-India Samyojak of the movement said as a next phase of the agitation, lakhs would converge at Rameswaram in Tamil Nadu on August 26 under the ‘Chalo Rameswaram’ programme to offer mass poojas to the holy bridge.

People to be mobilised

On August 28 a ‘Ramasetu Raksha Bandhan’ would be observed to mobilise and motivate supporters for the movement followed by weeklong Krishnashtami celebrations from September 4 when village-level campaign would be launched for protection of Ramasetu.

From September 27 to October 10 Dharmacharyas, sadhus and sants and their disciples would be mobilised in support of the movement.

Hanuman Chalisa recitation would be done from October 12 to 24, mass demonstration on October 25 and Shila Yatras from November 20 to December 20 to mobilise public opinion against the ‘Sethusamudram project’.

The stir would also bring pressure on the Government to declare it as an ‘underwater world heritage site’, Mr. Raghavulu said in a statement.
