Karat to open CPI(M) district headquarters

Building to be inaugurated tomorrow

Built at a cost of Rs. 1.3 crore


KOTTAYAM: Communist Party of India (Marxist) general secretary Prakash Karat will inaugurate the new district headquarters of the party here on Sunday.

District secretary K.J. Thomas and State committee member V.R. Bhaskaran told mediapersons here on Friday that the Rs.1.3-crore building was built with the contributions from party members and members of the CITU.

The three-storeyed building will have a 750-seat auditorium built in the memory of the party’s founder P. Krishna Pillai and a study centre named after the former Minister T.K. Ramakrishnan.

The P. Krishna Pillai memorial hall will be inaugurated by Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan and the T.K. Ramakrishnan Centre by CPI(M) State secretary Pinarayi Vijayan. Left Democratic Front convener Vaikom Viswan, Finance Minister T.M. Thomas Isaac, Minister for Cooperation G. Sudhakaran, among others, will speak at the inaugural session.
