Staff Correspondent

MPs, MLAs and MLCs from two districts to be part of the team

Assessing loss: D.V. Sadananda Gowda, MP, and Deputy Commissioner K.R. Niranjan at a review meeting in Madikeri on Friday.

Madikeri: State BJP president and Mangalore-Kodagu MP D.V. Sadananda Gowda said here on Friday that he would lead a delegation of MPs, MLAs and MLCs from Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts to New Delhi to meet Railway Minister Lalu Prasad and officials of the Railways to press for introduction of Hassan-Mangalore-Bangalore passenger line.

He disclosed this at an interaction with presspersons here organised by the Press Club. Two MPs each from Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts, 11 MLAs and three MLCs would be part of the delegation.

The meeting with the Railway Minister and Railway Board officials would be on August 21. The Centre should honour the wishes of the people of the two districts, Mr. Gowda said.

If the authorities did not respond to the demands of the people to introduce the passenger line, steps would be taken to stop all trains originating from Mangalore to Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and other cities, Mr. Gowda said.

He said that he had assured of rail links to Kodagu as well and that he would take up the issue during his meeting in Delhi. Replying to a query on the likely inclusion of Kodagu in the Mysore Lok Sabha constituency as per the recommendations of the Delimitation Commission of India, Mr. Gowda said that it would not work out.

Kodagu and Dakshina Kannada had a unique tie and it was the best. Similarities in culture marked the Kodagu-Dakshina Kannada relationship, which ought to be continued.

The BJP had argued against the draft notification of the Delimitation Commission of India, but to no avail. Currently, there were five Assembly constituencies in Dakshina Kannada and three in Kodagu under the Mangalore Lok Sabha constituency.Madikeri MLA K.G.Bopaiah, president of the Kodagu BJP unit M.P. Sunil Subramani and office-bearers of the district and taluk units of the party were present.

Earlier, Mr. Gowda visited rain-affected areas in Napoklu and surrounding areas. He held a review meeting here involving officials of various departments of the district. Deputy Commissioner K.R. Niranjan was present.

Mr. Gowda also visited rain-affected areas in Virajpet taluk.
