ERODE: Namakkal Collector G. Sundaramurthi said rather than giving financial assistance to the poor it was better to provide training, so that they earn their livelihood. Participating in a function organised to distribute certificates to 30 persons who had completed training in health assistants programme in Tiruchengode on Thursday, he said by giving such training, the poor made their living with dignity. In the two-month long training programme, poor people from rural areas were provided training in basics of health care so that they got employed in clinics and hospitals as health assistants. Most of those who underwent the programme also got a job offers. The training was conducted by doctors.
