ERODE: Vellalar College for Women has been conferred with autonomy status. A release from the college says the institution can enjoy the autonomy status for six years. It will enable the college to have freedom in determining the syllabi, restructuring and redesigning courses to suit local needs, prescribing rules for admission in consonance with the reservation policy, evolving methods of assessment of students’ performance and conduct of examinations. The degrees will be awarded by the Bharathiar University, though. The release adds that the autonomy was granted by the University Grants Commission after ensuring that the management system of the college was adequate and would provide ample opportunities for academics to make a creative contribution.
