K. Chandrasekhara Rao
HYDERABAD: Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) president K. Chandrasekhar Rao said the Left parties are driven by opportunism in aligning with the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) at the Centre, and the Telugu Desam Party in the State. Coming down heavily on these parties, Mr. Rao said at a press conference here on Friday that they ceased to have a progressive outlook in their ideology. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh dared the parties to snap ties with the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) against the backdrop of their reservations over the nuclear deal but they are reluctant, he said. He dismissed reports in certain newspapers that the TRS has weakened. Politics is not a stock market to fluctuate. Their performance is evaluated by various parameters, he said. In any case, he added that the TRS had proved its worth in the Karimnagar parliamentary constituency by-election and the recent polls to coal miners unions where the party outperformed Congress and TDP, he said. 94-member executive
Mr. Rao announced a 94-member executive of the party that included several MPs, MLAs and senior leaders. Hanamkonda Member of Parliament B. Vinod Kumar and legislators T. Harish Rao, Naini Narasimha Reddy, Koppula Eashwar and A. Chandrasekhar were named among 29 general secretaries while former Members of Parliament A. Chandulal and Malliala Rajaiah were included among 11 Vice-Presidents. Ten cells
Chairmen of ten cells of the party were also announced. They include Warangal Member of Parliament Ravindra Naik, who will head the ST cell. Mr. Rao said 60 per cent of the executive is represented by weaker sections. The first meeting of the body would be held shortly to discuss the action plan of the party. The executive will be expanded after the meeting, he said. The political affairs, election and disciplinary committees would be constituted within a week or ten days, Mr. Rao said.
