HYDERABAD: The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) is all set to conduct the second phase of ‘Kalyanamastu’, the performance of mass marriages on Sunday, August 26, between 11.10 and 11.20 a.m., with the ‘muhurtam’ falling on ‘Sravana Sukhla Trayodasi’ in ‘Tula lagna’ on the auspicious star ‘Sravana’.

TTD Chairman B. Karunakar Reddy, accompanied by Joint Executive Officer Prabhakar Reddy and several senior ‘archakas’ called on Governor Rameshwar Thakur at the Raj Bhavan on Friday afternoon and presented the first invitation for the occasion.

As priests chanted Vedic hymns, Mr. Reddy draped a shawl around Mr. Thakur’s shoulders and handed over the invitation.

Select temples

Later, speaking to presspersons, he said the phase two of ‘Kalyanamastu’ will be held at all the TTD Kalyanamandapams and select temples across the State.

Replying to a question, Mr. Reddy said that the TTD had performed the wedding of about 5,000 couples in the first phase in February 2007.

This was not a target-oriented programme and while they were ready with arrangements to marry off as many couples who came forward, he said over 4,000 couples had registered until now.

In the State capital, ‘Kalyanamastu’ will be performed in the pristine environs of the Public Gardens, he said.
