Sand transporters withdraw strike
Special Correspondent
BANGALORE: After successful talks between the Government and the Federation of Karnataka State Lorry Owners and Agents’ Association, the construction material transporters withdrew their strike on Friday.
Disclosing this at a press conference here, Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy said the Government had agreed to look into some of the demands made by the office-bearers of the federation. Transport Minister N. Cheluvarayaswamy held talks with office-bearers of the federation on Friday. The construction material transporters were on strike for a few days protesting against “harassment” of sand lorry operators by government agencies.
Mr. Cheluvaryaswamy said the departments of Transport, Mines and Geology would soon come out with draft guidelines on the auction of sand mining quarries, transportation and issue of permits to lorry owners. The Government would instruct the Deputy Commissioners to strictly follow the guidelines, he said.
