Sensex sheds further 216 points

MUMBAI: Echoing weakening global markets on concerns over widening credit crunch, the benchmark Sensex continued to decline on Friday losing another 216 points as metal sector stocks suffered severe setback on sustained selling by funds amidst weakening trends in base metal prices. The Sensex which had recorded a biggest fall in four months of 642.70 points on Thursday, lost another 216.69 points at 14141.52 points after losing nearly 580 points at one stage but short-covering at lower levels and buying by domestic funds helped trimming most of losses. — PTI
