Lack of government bus service has hit students in Jayamkondam
|
JAYAMKONDAM: In the absence of bus service, van operators have come to the rescue of students near here.
The problem is more pronounced on Jayamkondam Cross Road, where students wait impatiently to catch a bus to reach their high school at Meensuritti village.
In this situation, the services provided by the van operators, who collect Rs.2 a pupil, have come as a timely help for the students.
Parents say their wards prefer the van service to the free government bus pass, as the timing of the bus service does not suit their school schedule. “The school starts at 9-30 a.m., but the bus service is available only around 8 a.m.”
Education Department officials say they have received complaints from parents about the lack of adequate bus facilities.
Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation sources say that a bus service connecting Jayamkondam and Muttam is being operated exclusively to cater to the needs of the students. However, the problems faced by those on Jayamkondam Cross Road will be looked into.
