ITI playground plagued by snake threat

ARIYALUR: A sprawling ground adjacent to the staff quarters of the Industrial Training Institute here has been in disuse for a long time in the wake of snake menace.

The site had once been a playground for ITI students. For a few years, the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation used it to stock paddy.

Official sources said the thick growth of bushes, especially ‘karuvel’ trees, had become a breeding ground for snakes.

Some faculty members of the institute said immediate steps should be taken to clear the bushes in order to ensure the safety of the residents and to promote sports activities among the students.

Official sources of the Training Department in Tiruchi, said steps would be taken for auctioning the ‘karuvel’ trees and put the land to proper use.
