Bangalore: Bangalore Little Theatre (BLT), the city’s oldest theatre society, is back with a new production. The Ungrateful Man will make its debut at the Ranga Shankara from August 21 to 26 at 7.30 p.m. daily. Adaptation
Written by David Horsburgh, the play is an adaptation of a story from the Panchatantra and is a family entertainer expected to appeal to both children and adults. School students can watch out for afternoon shows. Supported by Microsoft GTSC India and HDFC Ltd, the play is in aid of Dream A Dream, a registered non-profit organisation working with children from vulnerable backgrounds to develop critical life skills. The first shows of The Ungrateful Man will be part of BLT’s annual production for charity. “The play chosen for this year’s production is in the broad category of a family entertainer. It will appeal to a wide audi ence spectrum including children and is not aimed exclusively at any particular segment,” says Vijay Padaki, honorary president, Academy of Theatre Arts, Bangalore Little Theatre. Tickets for the evening shows are priced at Rs. 100 and are available at Supermarket at Brigade Road (25581248), K.C. Das at St. Mark’s Road, Calypso at Jayanagar (22452368), Hippocampus Reading Foundation at Koramangala (4110 1927), Dream A Dream Adugodi (6534 9980) as well as at Ranga Shankara The Ungrateful Man has been translated and performed widely in Kannada and Hindi as well. The late B.V. Karanth produced it at the National School of Drama (NSD) during his tenure as director there. The play is the production offering from Summer Project On Theatre 2007 (SPOT), but involving alumni from several earlier batches of SPOT . It will also be the 40th anniversary of the original performance of the play in Bangalore.
