In Parambikulam Wildlife Sanctuary
|
POLLACHI: Forest authorities at the Parambikulam Wildlife Sanctuary (PWLS) in Kerala that shares borders with Tamil Nadu’s Indira Gandhi Wildlife Sanctuary (which is popularly known as Top Slip), will continue to slap regulations on entry of vehicles into the sanctuary.
Expecting large numbers of visitors on the eve of Onam and to avoid their dissatisfaction over this proactive measure, Sanjayan Kumar, Wildlife Warden, PWLS said on Friday that the regulations on entry of vehicles of day visitors would be the same during the festival season.
Only 30 vehicles a day would be permitted to enter the sanctuary and that too would be staggered as three per hour from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., in order to minimise pressure.
This proactive measure is to prevent disturbance to wildlife, Mr. Sanjayan Kumar said. However, the regulations would not be applicable to package tourists.
The sanctuary encourages nature lovers who book under eco-tourism packages.
The visitors have to go to Parambikulam through Top slip. The Parambikulam sanctuary has accommodation facilities for a total of 70 persons.
Mr. Sanjayan Kumar appealed to the visitors to book their slot for entry to the sanctuary, to avoid disappointment after coming from long distances.
The slot bookings can be made at 04253-245025, 24505 or e-mail to wildlifewarden@ parambikulam.org
