Differently GIFTED: Visually-impaired students along with Governor Rameshwar Thakur in Hyderabad on Friday.
HYDERABAD: It has been a few months since they left school. Yet, they seemed to be thrilled dressed in their old uniforms and with gold medallions hanging from their necks, their cup of joy was overflowing. Quite naturally, because not everyone gets a chance to meet the Governor for excelling in school finals. These were the special children from Devnar Foundation for the Blind. Twenty students from the visually challenged school were present at Raj Bhavan on Friday to receive certificates and medals from Governor Rameshwar Thakur. And their dreams to do well academically and professionally are no different from others. “I want to get into IIT and later do my Masters. It is a great day for me. My school filled me with value systems which would serve me in good stead,” said Srikanth, a class 11 student, hailing from Machilipatnam. He scored 87 per cent in the Board exams. Highly capable
“They are capable of doing anything. What is needed are opportunities and a little bit of encouragement,” remarked school principal Lillie Egbert. Devnar school now has the best of infrastructure facilities for the visually challenged thanks to donation by firms like UBS (United Bank of Switzerland).
