Hearing from August 29

Coimbatore: The Judge of the Special Court for Bomb Blast Cases, K. Uthirapathy, on Friday told the undertrials that the court was likely to hear pleas on sentences for the key accused (facing charge of conspiracy and other serious charges) in the serial blasts case from August 29.

The serial blasts of February 14, 1998 left over 50 dead and over 250 injured. Of the 166 accused who faced 220 core charges, the court held that 158 of them were guilty of the charges and exonerated eight others.

The bail applications of some of the accused facing charge of conspiracy as well as minor charges had been posted for hearing on August 22 and 30. The court commencing the hearing of the accused regarding their pleas related to sentences on Thursday, heard 40 accused while two accused were heard on Friday. The court will hear the remaining accused on bail (plea on sentences) on Monday and Tuesday.
